Established in 1996 by composer, producer, guitarist and vocalist, Shak Cohen, Blue Svengalis is an Alternative Rock/Pop project, who has just released a remastered album, 'Early Years', which brings together some of his best material from 1996 to 2003, and it's raw, energetic, experimental and above all, fun, of which the session mix, 'You Didn't Tell Me', is today's Video Of The Day. Often described as sunny, catchy and uplifting, Shak's songs draw from a wealth of 50s, 60s and 70s influences such as Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys and The Ramones. Reviving the project after an approximate fifteen year hiatus, the band expanded last year to introduce American session drummer Joanne Ruocco plus vocalists Claire Frances and Belinda Campbell, whilst retaining longstanding bassist Sasha Titov and saxophonist Matt Wates. Indeed, over the last year or so, between lockdowns and Covid restrictions, the group recorded six songs at Tilehouse Studios, with Luke Oldfield engineering and co-producing, plus Pat Kenneally joining on keyboards.
